The clock winds ever closer to June 26 and the halls of the Lyric Theatre shimmer with enchantment, laughter, and quite a bit of sweat (the good kind, darling – the sparkly kind!).

Today’s post contains a bundle of behind-the-scenes surprises:
1. A fun cast video from the ever-radiant ensemble member Katie Gilbert.
2. An introduction video for the earnest revolutionary Jean-Michel (played by Thomas Roper).
3. An introduction video for Crazy Marie, the ever-so-glamorous Fairy Godmother (played by Suzanne Oakley)
4. Costume sneak peeks from ensemble members Chris Dear and Annina Nabors.
Since our last meeting, the cast has convened twice – each gathering alight with its own distinct brand of magic. Tuesday’s meeting shimmered with lyrical moonbeams as Musical Director David East coaxed harmonies to blossom like rosebushes after warm spring rain. Then Thursday swept in on a whirl of slippers and swirling skirts: an all-hands choreography call, interspersed with individual scene work under the keen eye of Director Lisa Martin.
A Video From Katie Gilbert
Every rehearsal needs a bit of silliness, and this week’s levity came courtesy of cast member Katie Gilbert, who waved her phone like a wand and passed it among her fellow castmates for a delightful bit of fun.
Thank you, Katie, for capturing the merriment behind the magic. It’s a precious reminder that every fairytale is powered by laughter, community, and just a bit of backstage tomfoolery.
Introducing: Thomas Roper Playing Jean-Michel
Next, I am delighted to introduce the marvelous Thomas Roper, who dons the revolutionary boots of Jean-Michel – and is also the choreographer for The Prince Is Giving A Ball!
He’s witty, he’s wise, and dare I say – he’s revolutionary! Viva la love and social responsibility!
Introducing: Suzanne Oakley Playing Crazy Marie
Now, a gust of glitter for another divine introduction: Suzanne Oakley, the spellbinding soul behind Crazy Marie (also secretly known as The Fairy Godmother). Suzanne’s theatrical roots run deep, and you can feel her reverence for this role in every word she speaks.
She layers warmth and wisdom throughout the production – exactly the kind of fairy you’d want beside you when the clock strikes midnight.
Costume Sneak Peeks - Chris Dear & Annina Nabor
And last but far from least, check out the wondrous sights that emerged from the costume workshop this week!
First is a shimmering work-in-progress ballroom gown, being crafted by the nimble-fingered Chris Dear. The puffed sleeves, the velvety sheen, the darling little gold and red rosettes – this piece is practically humming with excitement for the grand ball. And this is just the first step – there are more updates to come for this costume!
Then, take a look at Annina Nabors, glowing in her beautiful townsperson ensemble and looking as if she stepped straight out of a fairytale village. The mossy green bodice, the white base dress, and shimmering details come together to perfection, offering a look that’s charmingly evocative of Cinderella’s whimsical world. Annina is ready to jump right into the kingdom’s rhythm and start dancing in the town square.
Counting Down to Enchantment
Ah, dear friends, as we draw ever nearer to the grand premiere on June 26th, my heart beats with joyous anticipation!
With each rehearsal, the magic only grows stronger, woven deftly by our devoted cast and crew. Melodies perfected, steps refined, laughter shared – it’s all part of the wondrous spell we’re working on together. Stay tuned, there’s more to come!
Hold fast to your dreams, dear readers, for in just a blink of an eye and just under four weeks, we’ll be gathered together under the glittering lights of the Lyric Theatre. Until then, keep your hearts open wide, for there’s still much magic left to unveil. Stay enchanted, my dearest dreamers; the best is yet to come!
With moonlight and melody,
